Citroen Berlingo triumphs at Van Fleet Awards

The Citroen Berlingo scooped the Best New Van and Best Light Van gongs.

The Citroen Berlingo range scored a double triumph at the Van Fleet World Honours recently.

It scooped the Best New Van and Best Light Van awards at the ceremony, which was held in London.

The firm put the success down to its "unique range" of operational and safety benefits, pointing out it overcame "strong opposition" from other vehicles.

Accepting the prizes, commercial vehicle operations manager at the manufacturer Robert Handyside remarked he was "delighted".

"[It is] recognition of the Berlingo’s unique package. No other light van range available in the UK is able to match the Berlingo’s strength in depth – a fact that is reflected by its healthy UK sales," he added.

A total of 11 models of the van are available, that have a range of trim, engine and vehicle length options. Maximum payload is 860 kilograms.

Other winners of the gongs included Ford’s Transit Connect, which was named Best Small Van.

Best Large Van, meanwhile, was the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, which beat the Volkswagen Crafter.

    RSPCA extends partnership with Citroen

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has placed an order for more Citroen vans.

Companies looking into van leasing deals may be persuaded to consider opting for a Citroen model after hearing a testimonial from one satisfied customer.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) has revealed it will be extending its long-running partnership with the manufacturer by placing a new order for a number of Berlingo and Dispatch vehicles.

As a result of the move, the number of Citroen vans in the charity’s fleet will increase to 500.

Carroll Lamport from the RSPCA said: "The new Berlingo is suitably compact to be easy to use in town or country - and it provides a useful amount of extra load space compared with the original Berlingo."

The charity’s spokesperson added both models would play a key part in helping the organisation raise its standards of animal welfare and keep its inspectors safe.

Earlier this month, Ramsgate-based plasterer Danny Park won a Citroen Berlingo after nominating the best breakfast in Britain in a competition run by the light commercial vehicle manufacturer and the Sun newspaper.
