Scrappage scheme 'already having an effect'
Alistair Darling's announcement that a vehicle scrappage scheme is to be introduced next month has already had an effect, according to BuyYourCar.co.uk.
The announcement that a vehicle scrappage scheme is to be introduced next month has already had a beneficial effect on the automotive industry in the UK, it has been claimed.
According to BuyYourCar.co.uk, it has already experienced increased interest from people keen to purchase new motors.
Since Alistair Darling announced vehicles that are older than ten years old can be traded in for £2,000 towards a new model, the website has seen enquiries double.
The online resource's managing director Dave Long said: "The announcement in the Budget has resulted in phenomenal activity from consumers using the internet to take advantage of the scrappage scheme."
In order to be eligible for the programme, people must have owned the vehicle they plan to get rid of for at least 12 months.
After the scheme was unveiled by Alistair Darling, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said it was confident the initiative would help kick-start both new car and van sales in the UK.
